Day 1: Marrakech to Dades Valley Via High Atlas Mountains, Ait Benhaddou, Ouarzazate.
We’ll start early, leaving the bustling streets of Marrakech behind as we head toward the High Atlas Mountains. Our route takes us through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest mountain pass in Morocco at 2,260 meters. Along the way, you’ll see traditional Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides and breathtaking views of the rugged terrain.
Our first major stop is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ait Benhaddou. This ancient fortified village is a true gem and has been the backdrop for many famous films, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. We’ll explore its narrow alleys and learn about its fascinating history.
Next, we’ll visit Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Afterward, we’ll continue through the Valley of Roses, known for its fragrant rose fields, and into the Dades Valley, where dramatic gorges and lush oases await.
We’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel in the Dades Valley. Enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner and relax as we prepare for another exciting day tomorrow.
Dades Valley to Merzouga (Sahara Desert) Via Todra Gorge, Erfoud.
After breakfast, we’ll head to the Todra Gorge, a stunning canyon with towering cliffs that rise up to 300 meters. It’s a perfect spot for a short walk and some amazing photos.
From there, we’ll travel through the Todra Valley, a lush oasis filled with palm groves and small villages. The contrast between the green oasis and the surrounding desert is truly mesmerizing.
We’ll make a stop in Erfoud, a town famous for its fossil workshops. Here, you can learn about the region’s ancient geological history and even pick up a unique souvenir.
Finally, we’ll arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, you’ll meet your camels for a camel trek into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. As the sun sets over the dunes, the desert comes alive with colors, creating a magical atmosphere.
We’ll spend the night in a luxury desert camp, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars. The camp is equipped with comfortable tents, and you’ll be treated to live Berber music around a campfire. It’s an experience you’ll never forget!
Merzouga to Fes Through Ziz Valley, Middle Atlas Mountains, Ifrane.
Morning:
Rise early to witness a breathtaking desert sunrise. The dunes glow in shades of gold and orange, making it a perfect moment for photos. After breakfast, we’ll return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 vehicle.
Midday:
Our journey continues as we head toward Fes. We’ll pass through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the landscape changes from desert to lush forests. We’ll stop in Midelt, known for its apple orchards, for lunch.
Afternoon:
As we drive through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, keep an eye out for wild monkeys! We’ll also visit Ifrane, a charming town often called “Little Switzerland” for its alpine-style architecture.
Evening:
Finally, we’ll arrive in Fes, where our tour concludes. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or a central location, filled with unforgettable memories of your Sahara Desert adventure.
